My new home

My Mug Shot
The first thing you should know about me, Oden is I am a Terrier/corgi mix.  I first met Jim at the Monterey County Animal Shelter on Tuesday April 3, 2012.  I saw him walking down the kennels toward me so I put on my best face and jumped on the cage hoping he would see me. IT WORKED, Jim bent down and petted me, talked to me.  I’ll never forget his words, wa, wa wa we, then he left.  I think he went to see if he could take me for a walk.  Jim came back and said to me, and I understood, I can’t walk you now but I’ll be back on Friday, (what ever that is) and left.  Darn I don’t like this place I wish someone would take me home.   They are nice, but i jut don't like it here

On Friday April 6, 2012 I went back to the shelter and was able to take Oden for a walk.  When I went in his pen to put a leash on him he took two steps back and then came running toward me and jumped up on my knee.  I put a leash on him and he wasn’t very happy.  I pick him up and he climbed up on my shoulder and put his head down on it.  I knew I had again been outsmarted by a dog.  Outside he walked ok on the leash, but kept forgetting it has a short end.  In the play yard he got down and ran around.  When I called him he would run over to me and jump to be picked up.
I told the ladies at the shelter I wanted to adopt Oden but would be out of town for 7 days.  They said they could not hold him.  I asked it they knew someplace that would board him.  They suggested Harden Ranch Vet.  I went to the vet and they said they would board him and would make arrangements to pick him up the next Tuesday when he was neutered.  I went back to the Animal Shelter and adopted him.  Oden was going to be neutered the next Tuesday and taken to the vets for boarding.  My gosh after 19 months I’m going to have another dog with me.
Hey that guy came back on Friday and took me for a walk.  I did my best to impress him.  I climbed up on his shoulder and put my head down.  He took me out for a walk and I did the best I could  but that thing around my neck was not comfortable.  We went to the play yard and I got that thing off my neck and I was able to run for the first time in forever, (a week).  When he called me, Oden?, I’m not sure what he ment but I went running to him and he seemed to be happy about it.  We went back in and I was back in my cage.  What do I have to do to get out of this place?
What seemed like seconds that Jim guy was back.  He came into my cage and picked me up and hugged me and said not to worry, soon I would be going home with him.  Did  he say home?  Does that mean I’m getting out of this place?  He gave me a hug and said I’ll see you in 10 days.
Tuesday April 17, 2012 , some one came in to get me and said, “Oden, it’s Tuesday”.  I don’t know what that means but I got out of my cage.   Ooooooooooh something hurts.  I’m just going to lie still and do nothing.  They keep talking about neutered, again one of those things I don’t  know but when ever I hear that again I’m going to run, as soon as I can!
Another night in the cage place.  I should say although they lock you up they are all very nice here.  They give me scratches and pets when ever they can.
Hey some one has gotten me and it looks like I’m going for a truck ride, yahoo.
I’m at some place called Harden ranch Veterinarian.  Back in a cage again but it’s different.  Its seemed like hours and then they came and got me and took me to the front and what did I see, that Jim guy I saw at the other place.  I really like him.  He held me and gave me a hug and said “Hi Oden”, (that might be my name so I’ll look at him when ever he says it).
Jim put  a collar on me and took me out to a rather large truck, there was no way I could jump in.  Oh he picked me up and put me in the truck.  He said I’m going home with him.  I’m a happy dog, I got a real home.

Jim is a full time RVer so our home is in a trailer.
I went with him to his home, at a car race track, where I met my new friend, Dooly.  Dooly’s parents are Gary and Betty .  I also saw a black thing they called a cat named Inky but he would never come up and say hi.
Wednesday April 18th
Jim and I got up about 6 and he took me for a walk.  Then went back inside.  Jim got ready to go and took me with him.  He said something about being a track dog so I had to learn about loud cars.  They were loud but not too bad.  I stayed in the car most of the day and Jim would come over and say hi.  Then I got to meet a bunch of people.
A couple of times we went for a ride on the track.  Mostly when we were driving I just laid down on my pad.  I keep wondering if I’m staying here or going somewhere.  I sure hope I’m staying.  I like Jim and he seems to like me.
Thursday
Jim and I went to  dog store today.  I didn’t do too well in the car.  I lost my breadfast.  Jim didn’t get mad he just scrached my head. I got to go in and walk around.  There are all kinds of treats on the ground.  We got some stuff and went home.  Jim put up this round thing with a nice bed in it so he and I can hang out outside.  I jumped around played with my toys and went to sleep.  When I want to walk I start sniffing around like I have to pee and Jim gets me out and we go for  walk.  I don’t really have to pee but it is easy to train this guy.

There is a lot of people here today, its the “Sea Otter Classic”, what ever that is.  Most of them are riding a bicycle. There was someone talking all day long and really loud.  They have a lot of last laps because I heard him say last lap, last lap, last lap, a bunch of times.
Friday
What he heck happened to Friday?
Saturday
We got up early today, something about a vet appointment.  I’m not sure what it is but I hope I don’t have to ride in the truck.  My stomach is not cooperating with me on that one.
It is the truck.  I’ll try, ooooooo, it didn’t work.  Oh well I’ll just lay down.

Later, Jim and I went to a BBQ, again a new one to me.  After being there for a while i figured out what a BBQ is.  It's a thing that humans do to cook a bunch of really good smelling food to tease the dogs.  It worked, i got nothing.  Jim said, "no table scraps for Oden".  I'll have to see if i can change that.

  1. LOVE IT! Writing from Oden's point of view is great. BUT. . .Oden, you mispelled your friend Dulee's name (but I know it's not your fault - that Jim guy just goofed!)
Will be following you Oden, both on this blog and from next door!
